2. Thakur S Powdyel, has been awarded the Distinguished Service Award by Samata Sahitya Academy, a philanthropic organisation based in Mumbai, India.

3. On January 10, British Honorary Consul to Bhutan awarded the 2017 Points of Light Award to Emma Slade at the Draktsho Vocational Training Center in Thimphu for her volunteer work and founder of the charity, ‘Open Your Hearts to Bhutan'.

4. On January 17, Bhutan participated in Asia Cooperation Dialogue meeting in Abu Dhabi, United
Arabs Emirates who was led by ambassador to Kuwait, Tshering Gyaltshen Penjor.

5. On January 18, The Ambassador of Cuba to Bhutan, Oscar Israel Martinez Cordoves, 
the Ambassador of Pakistan Rafiuzzaman Siddiqui, Ambassador of the Swiss Confederation 
Andreas Baum  and the Ambassador of United Arab Emirates Dr Ahmed Abdulrahman Albanna,
presented their credentials to His Majesty The King at the Tashichhodzong.

6. In January 19, Khenpo Karpo passed away at Bumrungrad Hospital in Bangkok, Thailand due to prolonged lung problem.

7. The Ambassador of the People's Republic of China  to India, Luo Zhaohui visited Bhutan from 
January 21-25. 

8. Bhutan is ranked 98 out of 118 on global talent competitiveness index 2017, compiled
by INSEAD, a graduate business school. Bhutan is poorly rated and is among the bottom
five in terms of availability of scientists, quality of scientific institutions and 
innovation output.

9. The price of goods and services between November 2015 and November last 
year(2016) has increased by 3.92 percent, the highest monthly inflation last year, 
as revealed by the consumer price index (CPI).

10. With the highest tax amount paid and a good compliance record, SD Eastern Bhutan Ferro Silicon’s chairman, Sonam Dukpa, was recognized as the top Personal Income Tax payer(PIT) in Bhutan. Sonam Dukpa paid Nu 29.4 million in PIT for the income year 2015.

15. Bhutan signed Air Services Agreement (ASA) with UAE(United Arab Emirates) on February 13.

16. RESC launched MaX online system.Performance Management System is renamed as MaX. This online system is used to submit the performance appraisal of the civil servants.

17. The executive director of the Royal Society for Protection of Nature (RSPN), Dr Kinley Tenzin, was honoured as one of the “50 Most Impactful Green Leaders” during the sixth edition of The World CSR Day held at Taj Lands End, Mumbai, India on February 18.

18. Bhutan's Crowning Glory was launched on February 22, dedicating to His Majesty's 37th Birth Anniversary.The author of this book is Ugyen Tenzin.
